Five Instant Self Esteem Boosts

“Most of the shadows of this life are caused by standing in one’s own sun.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson. Truer words have never been spoken. Rejoice in this idea because it means you are the person that can get out of your own sun. In other words, you have the power at all times to boost your self esteem and get out of your own sun beam.

Our low self esteem always comes from the story we tell ourselves about ourselves. Change the story you tell yourself with these 5 little tricks:

1. Personal Grooming

If you ever think, ‘there’s no reason to do my hair or change clothes because I’m not going to see anyone I know today,” consider changing this habit. If you take the time to fix your hair or put on make-up for other people, why wouldn’t you do it for yourself too? One of the quickest ways to feel better about yourself is to give yourself the best ‘you’ to look at in the mirror.

2. Exercising

Forget about the weight loss benefits of exercising. Weight loss is great and always boosts one’s self esteem. But there is an immediate benefit as well. The best reason to exercise is to release endorphins in your brain. This is a purely bio-chemical technique that will work every time. You have to dedicate at least twenty to thirty minutes of some sort of exercise to get the full benefits. This short amount of time is all it takes to feel empowered all day long.

3. New Outfit

Buying a new outfit always makes us feel better. I promise you this will work even if you are not a person who is in love with fashion. If you wear clothes, and we all do, go and splurge a tiny bit of money on a whole new ensemble. You will feel pampered and quickly realize that you are worth it.

4. Choose to Eat a Healthy Meal

It might seem counterintuitive to not allow yourself to indulge in eating anything you want when you feel a bit low. However, if you want to boost your self esteem, you must do the exact opposite. Decide that you will eat a meal purely for its health content. By doing so, you are telling yourself that you are in control and have self discipline. It is a sub conscience way of telling yourself how smart and proactive you are.

5. Help Others

When you are strong, you are able to help others. So, even if you don’t feel strong, you will as soon as you help others. You can do this by simply making a donation online or even just helping a little lady cross the street. Make small or great acts of charity a daily activity and you will live a very happy life. Also, the act of helping someone else will take your focus off of yourself for a while. It truly is better to give than to receive.
